Subject Matter: Science: Earth Systems
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Lesson Objective:
Learners will demonstrate knowledge and
understanding of weather conditions through an ability to share and describe observations
of local weather patterns over time.
Subject Matter
Content Standard: K-ESS2-1. Use
and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over
time. [Clarification Statement: Examples of qualitative observations could
include descriptions of the weather (such as sunny, cloudy, rainy, and warm);
examples of quantitative observations could include numbers of sunny, windy,
and rainy days in a month. Examples of patterns could include that it is
usually cooler in the morning than in the afternoon and the number of sunny
days versus cloudy days in different months.] [Assessment Boundary: Assessment of quantitative observations
limited to whole numbers and relative measures such as warmer/cooler.]

Technology
Standard: NETS for Students:
5.Technology
Research Tools: Students:
1. use technology to locate, evaluate, and
collect information from a variety of sources.
2. use technology tools to process data and
report results.
3. evaluate and select new information
resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness to
specific tasks.
Website Addresses
Used as Resources:
Student Research
Questions:
Assessment: Students can use the websites to look up local weather. Students can compare differences in weather.
Students will be able to find images of weather and descriptive words
they are unfamiliar with. Students can
look up different weather environments and use the pictures they find to create
their own illustrations. Assessment can
be gauged on each student’s weather charting data and artwork created within
their Weather Journals
Essential Question: How can Scientist predict weather
and gather data?
- What tools are used by scientist to gather weather data?
- What weather patterns occur in our local weather?
- How many seasons are in our area?
- What are the seasons of weather?
- What are the seasons of weather in our local climate?
- What words are used to describe weather?
- What words are used to describe weather in our area?
- What is a weather related hazard?
